A basic explanation of the rat's reproductive system is useful information for both the breeder and the rat owner.

The purpose of the reproductive system is to ensure the continuation of the species.

Rats have shown a remarkable ability to survive and thrive. This, in part, is due to their ability to reproduce often and to give birth and provide nutrients to multiple offspring.

Because rats are mammals, their reproductive systems are similar to ours in many ways. The differences are interesting to note and give us insight into how the rat has been able to consistently perpetuate its own species.
