(Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)

These are a group of drugs that have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti pyretic and platelet inhibitory action. They are drugs that are classified by differing chemical groups.

NSAIDs are primarily used for musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis, for minor post-op procedures, and as a secondary benefit in some pulmonary diseases. They are effective for low to moderate pain levels.

Results obtained by the use of NSAIDs can be unpredictable in human or animal, since the duration and side effects may differ with individual drugs.

NSAIDs, unlike narcotics or the glucocorticoids, do not produce physical dependence. They can also be used in humans or animals with infectious diseases or in those who are immunocompromised.
