Acceptable Types of Bedding and/or Litter

Note: Many commercial pine pellets use specially kiln dried pine. This treatment removes the dangerous phenols found in untreated pine shavings. (Regular bagged pine shavings are air dried). When purchasing any type of pine bedding for your pet rat be sure to read the package carefully. As long as it states the pine pellets are kiln dried and you cannot detect the aromatic “pine” odor then it is safe.
