Case history and photo


Male Dumbo rat approximately 5 months old. The photo shown below was taken following treatment with Ivermec.

Clinical Signs

Wounds from intense scratching.


Infestation of mites.


It was ultimately discovered that the initial treatment with Ivermec, was being used at too low a dosage. Follow up treatment was instituted for this rat and cage mates with Ivermec paste at the correct dosing in the amount the size of a grain of rice. In addition this rat was bathed, and the cage, bedding and toys, were sterilized with a disinfectant.


Treatment was effective with no signs of secondary infections.
